Framed oil on canvas, Abstract Sky scape, signed ''J. Keane'' lower right. An early-mid 20th century Oil on Canvas Painting . Artist is named Theodore J. Keane and produced many abstract large paintings throughout his career. Born in San Francisco, CA in 1880. Keane studied locally at the Mark Hopkins Institute and at the AIC. For several years he was director of the Minneapolis Society of Fine Arts and initiated the building of the Minneapolis Art Institute. By 1915 he had settled in Chicago where he served as dean of the AIC. During the 1920s he returned to his native city due to ill health. Returning to the Midwest, in 1930 he established his own school in Toledo, OH while living on a farm in nearby Custar. He was active there until his death on May 15, 1952
